When I select no drive it warns about uninstalling printer drivers and. I used a WD NetCentre for many years for all my ripped music. On upgrading to Windows 10, my PC does not see the WD drive (either as a drive connected to the PC or connected directly to the router). I cannot locate the original installation disk and am at a complete loss as to how to recover my music collection: the WD site no longer appears to have the 'installation CD' or other downloads to help - and I can't find anything in the MS forums (so far) to help. The computer connects wirelessly to a WRT160N router. The computer was upgraded from Windows Vista 64 bit. I also have a WD-Netcenter hard drive that is wired to the router. The WD-Netcenter has folders. Some of the folders are password protected. When I had Windows Vista on the wireless computer I could connect to password protected WD-Netcenter folders simply by entering a password in the dialog box. No user name was required. This is also the case for my computers running Windows XP. They can connect to the WD-Netcenter password protected folders simply by use of a password. No user name is required. The HP desktop computer (running Windows7 Home Premium 64 bit) presents a dialog box that seems to require BOTH a User name and a password. I have tried various user names and get a return message 'Try a different account' If I enter the password with no user name the return message is User name is required. I have also tried to connect using every kind of Windows compatibly. No luck Does anyone know how to connect to the password protected WD-Netcenter folders using windows 7. Any help is appreciated. I was finally able to connect to a password my protected share Folders) on WD-Netcenter. I used Windows Credential Manager to gain access. In Windows Credential Manager enter as shown below: Line One enter the Internet or network address: 192.168.1.108 (Address shown is mine. I took all passwords off of my folders and I can access them. However it makes me a bit nervous leaving my drive turned on and open to the internet with no password protection. I contacted Western Digital and they said that the drive has no built in user name. They also said that they do not support Windows 7 for my drive. Buy a newer drive, a pain in that the drive works perfectly and is only 3 years old and is only used for backup. I created a MAC rule on my router to deny the WD-Netcenter drive internet permission. Hopefully this will help. The drive works perfectly (no user name) with Windows XP and Vista computers. I still think that something in Windows 7 has higher security and requires a User Name to access password protected folders on a network share.
